Barb Besco grew up in a small town outside Ottawa. Her mother was a nurse who spent many years working for the local Health Unit, but also spent time with the VON and several years working in a long-term care facility. Barb remembers how the loss of a senior in the home would affect her mom – it was like she had lost another friend.
